Senior Class of 2007

Information You Need to Get the Best Senior Portraits Possible!

Planning Session

We encourage both the senior and a parent to come in for a 30—45 minute free consultation session.  At this time, I will attempt to answer questions, show you some samples of my work, and discuss what clothing and props you should think about including.  If you have any examples that you’ve seen in your yearbook or magazines, bring them in at this time. The fee for your photo session is pre-paid at this time to reserve your photo session appointment.

Photo Session

Please make sure to arrive for your appointment at the scheduled time.  One of the first things we do when you arrive is to review your clothes to decide where the each outfit will photograph best. Feel free to make suggestions during your session if you wish. The important thing to remember is this is supposed to be fun. So relax, we’ll help you every step of the way.

What Should I Bring?

Remember, these are your portraits, so they should reflect you and your personality. If you always wear baseball caps, etc., let us know and bring them in to your session. Your clothing should be a mix of things you wear everyday.

SPORTS: If you want sports pictures, be sure to bring any accessories like helmets, padding, awards, uniforms, and balls with you.

CARS: If you decide to bring a car or truck, be sure it’s clean, ArmourAll the tires and clean any bug spots off the license plate.

PETS: If you’re bringing pets, be sure to tell us before hand.  It is usually a good idea to have a parent or friend take the pet home after we’re done photographing it. That helps eliminate distractions.

FRIENDS: Sometimes it’s difficult to relax and be natural in front of friends, girlfriends and boyfriends, or relatives, so if you want to be photographed with a friend, it might be better to have them come at the end of your session or at the beginning and then have them leave so you can finish your session alone and relaxed.

What Should I Wear?

We suggest you bring as many outfits as you wish even if you don’t use them all.   We can help you decide what will look the best. You’ll want to bring as much variety as possible. Most seniors choose some casual and some dressy outfits.  The most important thing to remember is to have all clothing ironed, clean and well fitted. Belts, ties, jewelry, shoes, class ring and accessories are often forgotten, so be sure that each outfit is complete.

Also -- Be sure your fingernails are clean or freshly manicured.

VARIETY IS THE KEY TO GOOD CLOTHING CHOICES!

Solids          Solid colors are best. Stripes, large logos, and busy patterns will add pounds to your figure and draw attention from your face!  Small subtle patterns or a meaningful logo is OK.

Colors         Choose tops to match your eyes or in colors that you feel good in.  Be careful about bright colors, like red and yellow.  Only certain people are able to wear them and look good.

Old Clothes usually photograph better than new clothes mostly because you are more comfortable wearing them!

Long Sleeves are better than short sleeves or no sleeves unless you have slender, tan arms, especially for yearbook poses.  Don’t try to wear things that you are not comfortable with.  Your poses will look very stiff and unnatural.

CLOTHING FOR GUYS:

For traditional portraits – Wear a suit, button-down shirt, or sport coat with a tie.  Solid, medium to dark sweaters also photograph well.

For casual and outdoor photos – Wear plain t-shirts, Long-sleeved dark Shirts, Plaid or small print shirts, Jeans, khaki pants, Leather or varsity letter jacket, Sports Uniforms, hats.

DO NOT WEAR...Anything with any stripes or bold patterns, Sweaters or t-shirts with logos, words or pictures unless the logo is important to you.  Be sure your clothes are wrinkle free!

CLOTHING FOR GIRLS:

For traditional portraits – Wear dresses (even prom dresses); sweaters and dressy shirts with skirts or pants, Long-solid-colored dresses.

For casual and outdoor portraits – Wear long-sleeved or 3/4 length earth-tone sweaters or shirts, Dark sweatshirts, Flowered dresses, Sun dresses, jeans, Shorts, Swimsuits, Leather jackets, Denim jackets, Coats, Hat, Bandana, Your or Your boyfriend’s sports uniform.

DO NOT WEAR…Any stripes, piping, or busy patterns.  Sleeveless, spaghetti straps or short “cap” sleeves makes arms look fat unless your arms are tanned and thin, Bib overalls widen the waist and hips. Baggy or white jeans can add 10 lbs to thighs and hips. Contrasts like a light top with a dark skirt, a white shirt under a dark sweater may not be best because they draw a lot of attention to your waist.

Other Miscellaneous Suggestions

Tanning...You can look tanned without having to be tanned-just wear a white (or off-white) outfit.  The light colors will make your skin appear darker in your portraits. Don’t overdo in the sun or tanning salon just before your session. It’s almost impossible to remove a peeling nose or bright-red sunburn.  Also you must be careful about tan lines as they will be evident with some clothing choices.

Hair...Try to have your haircut and/or perm at least one week before your session, to give it a chance to “fill in”. We don’t style hair.  Please remember to bring a comb or brush.  Wear it as you do normally first, and then different ways. Clean hair is best.  Heavy spray, mousse or gel makes hair photograph oily and dirty!

Make-up...Including Guys! Yes, retouching is available for your wallets and enlargements but not for your previews. Don’t cancel your appointment if you wake up and discover an acne outbreak!

Here’s a quick hint that will greatly enhance your portraits: Just before your session, stand two feet in front of the mirror and dab a small amount of cover-up on any noticeable blemishes. If they’re gone in the mirror, they’ll be gone in your photographs!

LadiesWear your make-up as you would for a formal evening event (a little heavier than you would in the day time). Be sure to bring your makeup with you in case you need a touch-up or to change your lip color.

Glasses - If you wear glasses most of the time, you’ll want to wear them in your portraits. To eliminate glass glare, either have the lenses removed from your glasses or call your optician and arrange to borrow a pair of empty frames like the ones you wear. Most opticians will gladly do this for free (make sure you give them plenty of notice, though!)

What about the Weather?

Cloudy days are the best for photography.  With rain, we wait until your session time to determine whether to continue or reschedule.  Since the weather can change hour by hour, it could be raining on your way to the studio location, but then turn into a great photogenic day.

What About Retouching?

Retouching artists spend their entire lives learning their craft.  Retouching includes removing blemishes, and softening facial lines. Freckles will not be removed. Fly away hair, moles, cold sores, bruises, scabs, scars and etc. can be removed but you will be charged additional artwork charges.

Previewing your Photos

You will be notified when your portraits are available for viewing via our online “proof-less” web system.  You and your friends and family can all view at once without the hassle of having only one set of proofs to look at.

Ordering Session

Ordering appointments can vary in the amount of time they take.  Plan at least 30 to 60 minutes.  If you’re not 100% sure what you want to order when you arrive - don’t worry, we’ll help you figure it out.  Payment in full will be required at the time of order.  Prices are guaranteed for 30 days from the date of your portrait session, but then are subject to change without notice.

Picking Up Your Finished Portraits

You’ll be notified when your finished order is ready to be picked up (about 2—4 weeks).   A $10.00 rush charge will be added for any photograph that’s needed within two weeks of ordering.
